i kind of always have made it my business to always be getting âbetterâ â in the ways i see value in, of course. Matt might wish that I speak to my therapist about the inherent âtoneâ thatâs mostly always in my voice but instead, we talk about giving myself grace and creating more abundance đ
becoming âbetterâ to me means striving to unlock a version of yourself that will involve facing your fears, pushing beyond what you think is possible, putting in work you know you can do but havenât yet, and/or becoming more true to who you are at your core.
this is likely a first-child, eldest-daughter coping mechanism of some sort đ€·đŸââïž but figuring that out isnât making my list right now.
what is making the list is: becoming hotter, better dressed, more spiritually aligned, richer, and (ironically) more grateful (the two coexist), a better partner, friend, daughter, and better at and in my work life.
so, if youâre also looking to be better, hereâs a list of whatâs helped and is continuing to help me:
Becoming Hotter
a hormonally and blood sugar-optimized diet â after figuring out i had PCOS i started to work with a dietician, she is THE BEST and i am so grateful to have her in my corner to guide me through all of the noise â she also has a podcast with so many helpful tips. a few quick ones are:
no caffeine before you eat, spikes your cortisol
eating within 90 minutes of waking up (if it feels right, listen to your body always)
getting enough protein!
cycle syncing â read Woman Code by Alisa Vitti if you donât know what Iâm talking about
a weight lifting & pilates workout split - i do a mix of the below and switch it up based on my cycle (more in Woman Code on this)
boundaries with social media â it just does
walks, so many walks - morning and early evening and one after dinner when i can
Becoming More Spiritually Aligned & Grateful (Read: Sane & Happy)
meditating outside in the AM before i look at my phone, i like Open
if thatâs not your jam, a morning walk not looking at your phone will remind you what you have to be grateful for and cultivate some peace before the chaos of the day starts
Marianne Williamsonâs âA Return to Loveâ - a must-read i tell everyone about
listening to your body and intuition â which requires regular silence, stillness and solitude, Liz Tran talks about this in her book âThe Karma of Successâ you can listen to it on Spotify too
writing this newsletter - cheesy but true, i donât like journaling so a substack it was but writing out your thoughts and feelings does something for the carrie bradshaw in each of us
Becoming Richer
still working on this oneâŠbut The Illusion of Money is great (fair warning, a little cheesy but on point), this podcast episode, and this one too helped me reframe recently and like i said, therapyâŠ
Becoming a Better Partner, Friend & Daughter
all interpersonal relationships benefit greatly from therapy not because you then have somewhere to complain, but i truly believe if youâre doing the work you need to on yourself, you can see your reactions, emotions, and perceptions clearly and thatâs more than half of maintaining relational homeostasis
being honest
having and maintaining boundaries
giving yourself and others grace
there are a lot of relationship âexpertsâ out there but i believe people do and see what they want to, so if you really want a better relationship youâll be ready to be the better version of yourself that it might demand
Becoming Better at Work
read more â whatever it may be for your industry, keep up on newness however it works best for you, for me itâs subscribing to a bunch of newsletters i scroll on my morning walk
speak up and have an opinion - kind of self-explanatory but youâre in your position for a reason, if you feel compelled to voice something, do it
fake it till you make it â i believe that possessing certain skills and believing you can do it are kindaaa one in the same, donât sell yourself short just because you donât âfeelâ like an expert, no one really feels it until theyâve faked their way there long enough
hereâs to getting better! x
